Opening a 2025 Topps Chrome Update blaster box
Liking that chromium still.
This is box 4 of 7 you’re looking at from my original shopping list, with cards I fully plan to resell, except big hits, like the prior box (where I still haven’t come down from Cloud 9). To recap, I’ve opened:
2025 Bowman Chrome mega
2024 Bowman Chrome mega (intended to get a Bowman Draft Chrome mega, but I’ll take what I got)
I’m going with my current trend of seeking out great Bowman and Chrome cards that I can resell, along with rookie cards.
Right here I have a 2025 Topps Chrome Update blaster. This is about $35 cost to me, for 28 cards, 7 packs in the box, 4 cards per. It’s a 200-card set that was out in December. Average price per card is currently down 1.25. Cost to me is about the same. Popular base cards (3 to a pack) belong to Kurtz, Roki, Mayer, PCA, Cam Smith, Raleigh, Drake Baldwin, Jacob Wilson, Elly, Durbin, Hyeseong Kim. Kurtz really does dominate in the area of variants that are selling well.
Here we go!
Pack 1 of 7
Grant Wolfram followed up his first full time season as a Baltimore rookie, currently doing better in 16 appearances, 4.85 ERA, and improvement in all 9-inning ratio scores. Anyone notice he’s already 29?
Brad Lord this season for the Nationals is 1-0, 3.80 ERA, roughly the same stats as last year.
Fortune 15 card of Mayer is a neat imaginative looking card. 1:21 pack pull, not bad but for a non-numbered parallel, barely rises above base price.
Also in pack: Carlos Correa
Pack 2
Tirso Ornelas had a cuppa with the Padres last year. He’s displaying more power and better contact in the Complex League. He might not stay down there long.
Jace Jung is yet to show his brilliance at the major league level. Still a part-timer for Detroit.
JC Escarra, Refractor variant. Also sticking close to base price. I like his nickname “The Hialeah Cannon”. But he debuted in the show at age 30.
Also not appearing here: Justin Turner
Pack 3 are all RCs
Brooks Lee already moved into a full-time role for the Twins, and is having his best season so far going .270/.326/.434
Eric Wagaman has played for 3 franchises in his short career and was just DFA’d by the Mets.
Caleb Freeman refractor, or at least i think it is. Treating it as base for now. Brief appearance for the White Sox last year, currently back down to AA for the Blue Jays.
Ryan Rolison (saw this as Roulson. geez) at age 28 is having a sparkling 2026 season, with 3-0 record, 3.12 ERA for the Cubs.
Pack 4
Ryan Fitzgerald RC is age 32 and a little old to break into the show. He started 2026 at AAA.
Tatis Jr. ASG card , with, I think, Hunter Goodman in the Rockies #15 jersey back there.
Dalton Rushing, Sepia Refractor $2-3 Watch out for him. .328/.400/.724 in 19 games this season for the Dodgers.
Jackson Jobe RC has had a storied long windup to get to the majors before the injury. He’s still months away, having just completed his first bullpen session coming back from Tommy John surgery. Pop quiz: What’s the technical name for TJ surgery?
Pack 5
Yaramil Hiraldo debuted in MLB at age 29. Doesn’t look like he’ll remain up with Baltimore for long.
Caden Dana started the season with AAA Salt Lake after 2 nondescript part-time runs with the Angels.
Also appearing: Ryan Helsley, Jose Trevino
pack 6
Chandler Simpson was 13th in the ROY voting in 2025. Dangerous base-stealer who leads the league in 3Bs,....and CS. You thought I’d say SBs? Hitting well tho: .313/.340/.361
Jobe again, this time in the Purple RayWave Refractor variant, 62/250, 1:188. Best pull thus far, about $4. What does that say about the set, considering he may or may not show up in 2026?
Jacob Wilson, Sepia refractor. Fantastic 2025, and building on it for 2026, hitting .291/.308/.404 for the Vegas Athletics.
Matt Shaw with the nod to Stranger Things. I’m among the last to not have seen the show! But dig the wording on the back. Nice pull here for $3-4 Currently hitting .284/.322/.469 for the Cubs.
Last:
Marcelo Mayer RC. Great pic. Decent season so far for Boston, going .247/.315/.340
Yoan Moncada in the basic RayWave variant.
Also in the pack: Isaac Paredes, Ceddanne Rafaela.
Well I sort of got what I paid for. No real losses. One nice parallel, and Jobe at that. I guess I’ll hit up eBay and see how to sell all these.
Coming up: 2026 Bowman Blaster, probably next week.
Beyond that: 2022 Bowman Blaster (just purchased, out next week also), 2022 Bowman Mega, 2022 Topps Chrome Blaster
(Also, if you’re keeping score, I plan to preorder Topps Series 2, despite the kid brother reputation of the set along with the bad experience I had from last year’s set).
